Non-Executive Director - Pure Retirement
Location: Thorpe Park, Leeds (LS15)
Remuneration: Approximately £28,000 per annum
Time Commitment: Approximately 6 Board meetings per year plus committee and Board commitments
Reporting To: Chair of the Board

Pure Retirement is a specialist later-life lending provider and part of the wider Age Partnership Group. Operating within the regulated mortgage and equity release market, the business focuses on delivering customer-focused lending solutions while maintaining high standards of governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
The Role
Pure Retirement is seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director to join its Board and provide independent oversight, challenge and strategic guidance.
This appointment is particularly suited to an individual with significant experience in mortgages, lending, risk, compliance or financial services leadership. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in governance and risk oversight and is likely to Chair the Board Risk Committee.
The role requires someone capable of building strong relationships across the Board, Executive Team, wider Group and external stakeholders, while maintaining the independence and objectivity expected of a Non-Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
• Attend and actively contribute to Board meetings (approximately six annually)
• Serve on Board committees, including the Board Risk Committee if appointed
• Provide independent challenge and strategic guidance to the Executive Team
• Monitor business performance, risk exposure and regulatory compliance
• Review strategic plans, governance frameworks and organisational performance
• Support the development of enterprise risk management and governance practices
• Assess customer outcomes, product suitability and service quality standards
• Monitor developments across financial services and later-life lending markets
• Act as an ambassador for the organisation and wider Group
• Ensure compliance with all relevant FCA and FSMA requirements
• Support Board decisions on major strategic, financial and operational matters
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
• Significant experience within the mortgage sector, ideally mortgage origination
• Strong understanding of later-life lending, equity release, mortgages or related financial services markets
• Board-level, executive or senior leadership experience within a regulated environment
• Experience in risk, compliance, governance or business leadership roles
• Ability to operate effectively within complex regulatory frameworks
• Strong understanding of corporate governance and Board responsibilities
Particularly Attractive Backgrounds
• Former Chief Executive, Chief Risk Officer or equivalent senior executive
• Experience chairing risk committees or leading governance functions
• IPO experience or involvement in high-growth financial services businesses
• Financial services board experience

Regulatory Requirements
Candidates must:
• Meet FCA and FSMA "Fit and Proper Person" requirements
• Be free from actual or potential conflicts of interest
• Have no history of bankruptcy or inappropriate association with insolvent companies
• Maintain the highest standards of governance, probity and conduct throughout their appointment
Remuneration & Commitment
• Approximately £28,000 gross per annum
• Attendance at Board meetings, committee meetings and strategic planning sessions
• Additional preparation and stakeholder engagement responsibilities as required
This role would be particularly relevant for experienced leaders from mortgage lending, banking, risk, compliance, later-life lending or regulated financial services backgrounds who are looking to contribute at Board level within a growing and highly regulated financial services business
